This section doesn’t include any of the musical instruments I own (a Bb tenor trombone, a Bb trumpet, a bass guitar, an electric guitar, a concert ukulele, and a Minilab 3 keyboard) since none of them have names.
Almost all of my machines and tools are named after goddesses from Greek mythology (some major, some minor; there are only so many Olympians). The exceptions are:
tamamizu, named after a kitsune
from a Japanese folktaleteiresia, named after the blind prophet Teiresias most
notable for showing up in the Odyssey’s book of the dead (in later
mythology, he was said to have lived seven years as a woman, so I’m
letting it slip by)cassandra, named after the Trojan prophetessatalanta, named after the Arcadian huntress who slew
the Calydonian boar (in some versions)areia, named after an epithet of Aphrodite historically
worshipped primarily in Sparta and KythiraFor minor goddesses or heroines, I try (usually) to keep it to ones associated with Artemis in some way. I know it’s odd for an atheist to have a favorite Greek goddess, but I just think she’s the coolest.
Actaeon probably doesn’t think so, though.
